Profile

Jelena Filipović-Grčić, PhD is a full professor with tenure and Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology. She teaches the compulsory courses at the graduate studies (Master of Pharmacy): Pharmaceutics, Biopharmaceutics and Pharmacokinetics, and Cosmetology. She is a coordinator of the Pharmacy module of the doctoral study programme Pharmaceutical and Biochemical Sciences at FPB, and of the postgraduate specialist studies Drug Development and Dermopharmacy and Cosmetology. Her scientific interests are new drug delivery (nano)systems; pharmaceutical technology, kinetics of drug release and targeted delivery. Recently, in the emerging field of nanomedicine, the focus of the interest of her group have involved the development of nanodelivery systems for drug and gene therapy of eye diseases, which requires the use of appropriate in vitro and ex vivo models of ocular barriers, making the optimization of these models an integral part of the current research project. She served as the Vice-Dean for Science for 8 years (2006/2007 to 2013/2014 academic year).
