Area of research

Over a five-year period (2010-2014), the Faculty staff published 355 scientific papers in journals included in the Scopus database, of which 285 in journals indexed in the Current Contents database (Table 5.5). Of the total number of scientific papers, 86% are original scientific papers, whilst 13% of the papers are reviews. Scientific papers were published in 160 different journals, of which 14 were national journals. The scientific work of the majority of the Faculty teachers is within the field of biomedicine and health, pharmacy and branches of pharmacy and medical biochemistry, all of which form the foundation for the study programmes that are run at the Faculty. However, a minority of scientific papers by lecturers are within the field of natural sciences, in the fields of chemistry, biology and physics (20%). Based on the aforementioned areas of scientific research of the Faculty, a selection of 10 journals has been indexed in the Current Contents base for each scientific discipline, respecting scientometric criteria concerning the quality of the journal. The first criterion was the impact factor of journals (IF), and the journals listed have an IF at least twice as great as the median IF in the category (MIF). According to a second important criterion which refers to the ranking of the journal within its category, 93% of journals selected are highly ranked and belong among the top score in Q1. Aside from criteria mentioned, the different areas of scientific activities of the Faculty and the accentuated interdisciplinary approach were also taken into account in order to include as many magazines from the scope of the priority research areas and disciplines.
